What is the going rate for a painter and decorator nationally?
Checkatrade has done a fantastic blog post showing what you can expect to pay for a painter and decorator nationally. I’ll give you the link at the bottom of this page as they update their numbers fairly regularly. At the time of writing the average cost per day has risen to £270 per day. BUT I don’t charge that much because of location, experience and workload. In a county where there are a lot of painters and decorators working competition is high, so quoting too high might end up with not managing to get any work. There are painters and decorators with years of experience, be careful of this though as “years of experience” can’t be proved and generally it isn’t something asked about. I currently don’t have 10/20/30 years experience, but I do know what I’m doing. Finally, regarding workload you might come across painters and decorators who are booked up for 6-8 months and so to fit you in may quote higher for the hassle of moving jobs around to fit you in, the ideal is a painter and decorator who is good, experienced, can be trusted and available and this is hard to come by.

Firstly, get in contact, tell me a bit about the job and where you are based and what time you’re needing it to be done. I will then get back to you and arrange a visit. This visit is free and so I can get an idea about wall quality, dimensions, any other quick jobs that need to be done in the house etc. Then I will go away with your email address and send you through a quote.
If you accept then let me know and we can sort a date, whether you want me to sort professional paints and materials and what to do about getting in the property. I can then come and complete the work and send you an invoice at the end of the job which will need to be paid within 7 days from the date of issue.
I value communication, so any issues that arise which could end up incurring further cost will be chatted about and we can decide together what to do about it.
